How To Start your Heritage Makers Book
It can be overwelming knowing how and where to start with your Heritage Makers book. I would start with deciding on what size of book to make. Then there are two ways that you can begin with your design, one being, start from scratch by picking the size of book that you want to make and opening it in your studio. The second option is to go into the template gallery and finding a book that you want to have copied to your project and then use that as your template.
Starting from scratch:
1. Go to my website: http://www.keepsakefamilytreebooks.com
Make sure my name appears on the lower right: Lorelei Young, otherwise, the system will assign a different Consultant to you.
2. Either sign in if you have an account or click on 'open an account'. Once you have an account, log in.
3. Go to start a project
4. Pick the size of book you want to make
5. Go to " my photos'
6. click on 'new folder', name the folder, then highlight it and click on new album
7. Name the new album. If it doesn't show right away, refresh, click on something else and so the album is in the proper folder.
8. Know where your photos are on your computer, click on add more photos in the top left window. This will make you click to the folder on your computer where you will select the photos you want in this album.
9. Your photos are easier to work with when you have them uprighted before you put them on your website, especially if you are going to use a template.
10. You can either place your photos on your pages now, or start with some background art. If you have the premier art subscription, then click on 'Art Collection", you can use any of the art there. If you have just the basic art (that is free) you can click on 'hide 'Premier' so only basic art will show.
11. In the art section, you can type in a color and all art in that color will appear.
B. Using A Template
1. Go to the template gallery and see if there is a template that you want to use. You can click on 'basic' or premiere art' so that you only see templates made with those categories of art. A book started with premiere needs the subscription to add more art if the subscription expires.
2. Pick a template you want to use, after you preview it, click on 'details', then click on get this template. You will find it in your "projects and template' place under 'my templates.
3. Find the template in your projects and templates place, click on start my own, and it will be open in your in progress folder, click on edit, and you can begin.
4. Everything in your template is locked. That way you can exchange your photo's by sliding them over the image you want to exchange with.
5. If you want to delete any pages, or any images on a page, unlock it, then you can move things around have take full control. Deleting pages must be done in the "managed pages area on the right of your project.
Note: You can duplicate a page to experiment with and delete it if it doesn't work. This is a safe way to do some experimenting and not lose original work.
The recorded classes in the studio will show all of this information.
Advantages of using the template:
It can be quicker, especially if you like the art work and photo set ups. I often will start with a template if I like as little as one page. Then I delete all the pages I don't want to use and duplicate the page I like. The rest I design myself.
Always contact the live support, the support office or your Heritage Makers Consultant if you are having issues getting the hang of something or if something is just not working right.
